TikTok Launches STEM Feed in Bangladesh

TikTok, in collaboration with the Bangladesh government, has officially launched a dedicated STEM Feed on its platform — a new digital space that curates content related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The initiative aims to enhance access to educational resources for Bangladesh's growing digital community, bridging urban-rural divides and reaching underprivileged areas through innovative technology. 

The launch was announced on Monday at an event held in a hotel in Dhaka.

The STEM Feed introduces a specialised content stream within the TikTok app, offering users a curated collection of reliable and age-appropriate educational videos focused exclusively on STEM topics. 

The platform also rolled out the hashtag #STEMTok, encouraging creators and educators to contribute STEM-related content in local languages, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Prominent filmmaker and cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, attended the launch event and highlighted the potential of the platform to foster innovation. 

He said, "Bangladeshi youth are both curious and creative. If we can connect this creativity with a safe and dependable platform, we can nurture problem-solving and innovation. Tools like TikTok's STEM Feed make learning more engaging and can deliver quality education in local languages."

Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for TikTok South Asia, emphasized the platform’s broader goals: “We believe this initiative will make education more accessible, appealing, and secure for the Bangladeshi community. By working with parents, educators, and policymakers, we aim to ensure that this platform supports the nation’s vision for digital inclusion and youth empowerment.”

During the event, discussions focused on how the STEM Feed aligns with the government's digital learning objectives. Emphasis was placed on promoting inclusive education, creating teacher-friendly tools, and implementing content safety guidelines. Panelists also addressed the need for contextually relevant content and responsible participation in the education sector by tech platforms.

To ensure user safety, TikTok highlighted several protective features already integrated into the platform, including Family Pairing, Time-Away Scheduling, Teen Network Visibility, and other safety alerts — all designed to foster healthy digital habits among users.

The STEM Feed operates under TikTok’s Global Community Guidelines, ensuring that the educational content is not only informative and credible but also suitable for younger audiences. Parents, educators, and policymakers were assured that the platform remains a safe space for learning and exploration.

The launch represents a significant step in Bangladesh’s digital transformation journey, showcasing how collaboration between government bodies, technology firms, and young creators can help bridge educational gaps and inspire the next generation.
